Production Diaries

Day One- 16/12/16
This was the first day of filming, which was to be done on the grounds around and inside of Hanworth Park House. In order to do this, I had to obtain permission from the house owner, whom then informed the security guards that live onsite.
The main aim for this day was to get as much footage as possible of the inside of the house, as this would be our only chance. Most of these shots are extras, which I will be using to make a clip of footage about the house and the making on my opening sequence. Some shots however, such as a zooming shot from the inside of the house looking through a window, will also be used in the title sequence

I had a member of the cast, Emma, come along in case any scenes that she was in were being filmed; and to also contribute to the making on the sequence.

To start off with, we took shots outside for the title sequence. This included an abandoned bunker, the front of the house and an old brick hut with benches. These shots were taken using the tripod to pan across the scene and to also zoom, making sure there was a variety of camera movements so that when it came to editing I could choose which one best suited the sequence. When it comes to post production, colour correction and effects such smoke or fog will be included to better portray this mysterious and eerie effect that the opening sequence should have on the audience.

When we were inside the house, I tried to get as much footage as possible of the house, going upstairs too. This is because I was informed that I would be the last person filming at the house, as it is going to be constructed into a hotel. I wanted to make sure I had enough footage for both the opening sequence and the making of it. As the house is abandoned and old, it fitted the conventions of a horror in terms of location, as floors were missing and there were long, dark corridors.
After this, the filming around the house was complete, and the shots needed for the title sequence we all taken. The next step was to film around the forest next to the house, which included dialogue from the cast. This was to be done on the 2nd January 2017.

Day Two- 2/1/17
This was the second and final day of filming, as only one set location was needed: The forest surrounding Hanworth Park House, also known as ‘The Teddy Bear Woods’, as old toys are seen to be hanging in the trees. Permission was not needed to film here, as it wasn’t on the grounds of the house.

The aim for today was to film the encounter and dialogue between the two characters, Alice and Jamie, as well as the introduction scene of Alice walking around, looking for Jamie. When filming the scene in which the two characters interact, I had to make sure that the sound would be of a good quality, as planes would frequently fly overhead, meaning that the actors could not be heard very well. This was repeated using a variety of camera angles such as: Over the Shoulder, Wide Shot and a Mid Shot of both characters together and separately. Furthermore, the end scene featured the characters running away, in which I again made sure to get a variety of camera shots and movements when it came to editing. This includes both tracking the characters and panning across the landscape in the direction that they are walking in.
In terms of capturing the character of Alice (played by myself) walking around the forest, I made it clear that I wanted again to get a variety of shots. Examples include POV Shots, Close up of shoes, Wide shot and camera movements such as tracking the character from both the front and back, and panning in the direction in which the character is going.

Once these were done, I captured a few establishing shots as well as extra shots for the title sequence in case any more were needed when editing, as well as some shots for the making of the opening sequence. After this, the filming was done and I was ready to edit.

Filming Finished!
