Character Profiles and Costume Planning

Alice Green:

Alice is the hero and the protagonist of the story, with her goal to defeat the villain and escape the forest with her friend, Jamie. The person playing this role will be myself.
Looks: Brown, straight/wavy hair, casual clothing.
Personality: Ambitious, they like to try new things and takes action before they think. She is reserved around new people or people she doesn't like, and isn't afraid to show that. She can be stubborn at times, and when with friends she is confident and tries to be funny.

Costume: Alice's style is casual as she wears what she feels and doesn't require that much effort. The outfit featured below is what she will be wearing throughout the opening sequence.

I chose this outfit because it is practical, which matches Alice's personality in willing to try new things and being quite forward and ambitious.



Jamie Waters:

Jamie is the helper of the hero as she is Alice's best friend, whom accompanies her on her journey. The actress playing this role is Emma Turner.
Looks: Short, straight,blonde hair, stylish clothing, glasses and always wears a beanie.
Personality: Calm and organised, reassuring Alice and is always aware of her surroundings, making her very cautious. She likes to plan ahead and is serious around almost everyone, apart from Alice, whom she can feel comfortable around. She only talks when spoken to as she is very shy and likes to avoid an argument even if she is right.

Costume: Jamie likes to plan ahead, meaning that her wardrobe is organised and stylish. Below features the outfit for the opening sequence, which is autumnal and well thought through. I have modelled for Jamie's outfit as the actress was unable to, and a white beanie is not included as it belongs to the actress, however when filming I will update this to get a photo of the actress and the full costume.


















The Child Keeper:

The Child Keeper is the villain and a demon in the narrative as they want to stop the hero and her helper and take their souls. In the opening sequence the Child Keeper is not present, so there is no actor to play that part.
Looks: Old, white hair and black eyes, always hunched over and very skinny and lanky with a sharp, pointed nose.
Personality: Dark, evil and psychotic, selfish and cruel. He is greedy, wanting to take children's souls so that her can gain more power and life.

Editing (Rough Cut): When starting to edit for my opening sequence, I split it into three parts: Walking (The character of Alice) Title sequence (on a separate document to the other 2 parts) Talking (between Alice and Jamie) I put the title sequence on to a separate file, as I will be doing most of the editing for this on After-effects. When doing this I will be adding animations to the title pieces and a fog/smoke mask to each scene to portray this eerie/mysterious atmosphere for the audience. The other two parts were done on Premier Pro and effects are yet to be added, as I have been working on the rough cut up until this point. Further effects will include this fog/smoke mask and adding objects to the scene, such as a dark figure in the distance. Pan Shots Pan shot- This shot is used to make the camera look left to right, for example, in a scene where we are following the subject. A steadicam can be used to get a smooth or professional shot, or it can even be handheld , especially during a POV shot to make it look more realistic. Its is the most simple and common method of camera movement, and is often used to do a sweep of an environment, which can set the scene and introduce it to the viewer.  Whip pan-  This shot is similar to the pan, however it is faster so that it gives a blurred effect. It is commonly used as a transition between shots, and can express a change in time or scene. It can also be frequently seen in cartoons, often accompanied by a 'whoosh' sound effect.  Zoom Shots Zooming in/out- This does not require the camera to move, but it creates the illusion that it is further/closer to the action or subject. Close-Ups: Extreme Close up- Used for a specific reason, for example to show an emotion of a character and to focus on a particular area of the image, for example with the image on the right, the viewer is drawn to the subject's eyes and the reflection in their glasses, as some form of action is taking place, so it intrigues the audience and catches their eye. This shot can connote mystery and can be seen as very dramatic, often used in horrors/thrillers to create tension and suspense within the audience. Close-up- This shot is good for showing detail and can be used as a cut in (refers to showing some part of the subject in detail). In this example, instead of showing one feature such as the eyes, the whole face is shown, which makes it easier to portray the subject's emotion and exaggerates their facial expression.
